thursday....
I think it's really interesting that in our class discussion on Thursday we spoke about Annie Sprinkle and about how some of her material may not have been appropriate to show in class because it might make people uncomfortable. The irony here is we had a few particular situations in class that day that certainly did not make me feel comfortable. Now, I know we all like the sound of our own voices (at least I sure do) but not at the cost of getting stressed out or upset over. It really irks me when people start to take things personal. This is an academic setting, we are suppose to be able to talk about issues that we don't agree on , but also to do so in a respectful way. It really amazes me that we have this petty arguing going on over matters that are irrelevant and take away from class discussion of matters that actually pertain to the subject matter.

Ok, I'll comment! :) I totally agree with you. Discussions are supposed to have mutliple views, that is why they are discussions. Otherwise, if all a person is searching for is someone to always agree, well there is always the mirror! I couldn't believe how Annie Sprinkles got the class so stirred sideways that sparks began to fly that hard. Really? People are so sensitive and the outside world is so insensitive. I was pretty frustrated myself at being held hostage to an onslaught of emotional bullshit that I feel would have better been served during a private session with a personal therapist.
oh, and by the way, my word verification is "trypot". Do you think they are trying to tell the students something? ;) Relax maybe? :)
That is funny that you mention that, because the two girls that had their confrontation shouldn't have taken it personally. I think it was awesome that David Reichard smiled..those girls need to chill it out. who cares if Alex tries to correct everyone,HCOM 312 was the basis of this major. People need to relax and learn and not care about what people think. As for Annie Sprinkles, I think she is awesome, I am glad this was a topic for class.
See here's where you and I differ. I like to say stuff just to see who has a response. I get tired of the one-sided stuff. The comments people make without anything to back it up, etc. I love to challenge them and then I like that they have nothing to say. And honestly, most of the time I don't even necessarily believe what it may sound like I'm advocating, I just want to hear the arguments people make and I like it when they fold. Hell, I like it when they give me a valid argument back, too.
I think it was almost necessary for that confrontation to take place. I have found it extremely rude when i'm trying to make a point and to voice something and I get interrupted and corrected before i'm even finished. Its extremely rude. I waited for my turn to express what i had to say, if she wants to correct me or to confront the point that i was trying to make, she can respectfully raise her hand and wait her turn like the rest of us. I was really glad when she was told that she was being really disrespectful.
